Web Database Storage Management

The new web databases like Oracle Cloud File system extend the storage management capabilities of earlier database products to deliver cloud infrastructure that provides network access, rapid elasticity and provisioning for pooled storage resources. Microsoft SQL Server was never competitive with Oracle in terms of storage management capability in the past, although it did offer strong cost efficiency for many database applications.
Recently, however, SQL Server has sourced advanced storage management software called Melio from Sanbolic. This software enables clustered volume management, a clustered file system, and an application clustering service. These additions to SQL Server now make it a viable Windows based alternative to Oracle's storage platform. In terms of performance, the Melio software enables striping across storage controllers, and dynamic volume expansion to address IO and application growth needs.
